Composites & Movie Posters...the seed is planted

Being a child of the 80's and growing up with some iconic action, scifi and fantasy films I've always had a keen interest in the cinematic world. Since working for myself this passion has started to find its way into the forefront of my composite work, looking for new ways to capture and bottle that cinematic magic into composite imagery. How long does it take to create a composite?

Digital composites are extremely detail orientated and can take time to get right, as well as being arguably one of the more highly skilled uses of Photoshop. A single digital composite can take anywhere from hours, days, weeks, or months of work, depending on its complexity and message.

Coming up with the idea

So, where do you start, you may well ask! A good starting point is to establish with the client what there vision is for the outcome of the composite and what message or story the composite will deliver to the selected target audience.

With a direction in mind from these discussions I like to map out some initial ideas and use a Pinterest mood board to narrow down a style/look that the client likes. Spending a couple of hours doing this kind of exploration upfront can really streamline the rest of the process, allowing the client and me to have a shared vision of what the final composite will look like.

What are composites used for?

Composites are extremely versatile and have a variety of uses some of which include Hero images for websites, Key Art for Movies and Key Visuals for Advertising campaigns. Using Non-destructive Photoshop techniques and practices means I can take the composite image and adapt all the elements into different formats and media allowing you to use it for full campaigns (web through to print if required).
